Based out of Denver, Colorado, these guys get around while spreading the great sounds of swing music and traditional jazz. Bandleader Joe Smith has a couple more groups in Denver (the Joe Smith Orchestra and The Red Hot Rhythm Rocket), but it’s the Pickles that really hit the road. Right now the octet has a new album out called Gin & Moonlight (two of our favorite things around the ranch), and are tearing up the highway in support of the new recording. The gig at the conference center will be the last in 2017 for the Juvae Jazz Society as they take a year off to reconfigure their Central Illinois Jazz Festival (see this week’s feature story). But Joe and his mighty, swinging band make a perfect combo to complement the tastes of Juvae fans and anyone with a desire to dance to the traditional sounds of classic jazz and swing. So be cool, stay hip, get on your dancing shoes and support our Juvae friends while seeing a really good band.
