Sandy Hamilton, a local real estate broker, confirms that an offer is pending and says that she is no longer showing the building or considering offers. She said that she doesn’t know the name of the prospective buyer, and she would not reveal the sale price – the asking price was $2.9 million.
“It was south, but not by much,” Hamilton said. “It could be anyone.”
The three-story building has been largely vacant in recent years. The basement press shut down a decade ago, with printing operations moved to Peoria. Departments charged with overseeing circulation, page design and other functions moved from Springfield years ago while the editorial department has downsized.
The building has been on the market since 2011.
