Poverty, class, and identity are woven together with family history to tell a story of growing up in rural Kansas. Sarah Smarsh’s book, "Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth," reexamines the American dream. Join the ISM as we explore what the American Dream means to us and how that might be different for others during our Big Read Book Club. Participants will read the book (book provided for the first eight people who register) on their own time and come together for discussion. Advance registration required; space is limited.
