Coming from nearby Bloomington to celebrate Old Abe’s birthday, Old Smoke Band invited Springfield’s own Trina Madonia to sing some lead and background vocals for the occasion. Starting out in 2013 as a duo called The Armadillo Brothers, the two soon grew into the Americana fivesome of Adam Humphreys (guitar, vocals), Jeremy Myers (guitar, vocals), Heath Brandon (bass, vocals), Chris Lackey (keyboards) and Scott Neuweg (drums). Steeped in a firebrand mixture of traditional Southern rock, blues and country with added contemporary roots rock sensibilities, the band plays popular regional venues such as Cowboy Monkey and Memphis on Main in Champaign-Urbana and Bloomington-Normal’s Castle Theater and Six Strings Club. Back in the day, drummer Scott Neuweg played in Springfield’s jazz-funk-rock hybrid band elevator shoe with Trina (a former Illinois Times “Best of Springfield” winner in the female vocalist category) and asked the singer to join in on some tunes for the evening. Welcome back to the stage, Trina. We respectfully request you not be gone so long the next time.
