Missa Gaia

As part of the biennial interfaith Liturgical Arts Festival, Missa Gaia is a contemporary ecumenical and ecological Mass celebrating the Earth, featuring lyrical melodies, dynamic rhythms from Africa, Brazil and American gospel traditions, incorporating traditional Latin and biblical texts and interweaving the voices of wolf, whale and harp seals. A community choir directed by Rev. Michael Riggs, First Christian Church features soloist Blake Martin on soprano saxophone. These performances will call forth a renewed commitment to cherish the earth, audience members will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from Sierra Club Sangamon Valley Group and Faith in Place.
