There's trouble all around, but everybody knows somebody who's had a good year, or someone who is grateful that their life is better than it was. This week's cover story by David Blanchette, "Holiday blessings," details five who were blessed and are grateful. In one case, first responders saved a life; in others, nonprofit groups like Habitat for Humanity, Wooden it Be Lovely and Mercy Communities were the first responders who saved a life. Together these stories show that many people were involved in helping the person get from where they were, to a better life now. It happens all the time. – Fletcher Farrar, editor
