My question would be: exactly what conventions would we attract beyond those coming here now? I'm not sure conventions are the way of the future. You might want to check in with the Illinois Society of Association Executives. Do they see associations looking for convention space? We need to be honest with ourselves in that the blow to Springfield was the huge transfer of state workers to Chicago. Beyond conventions, we can't even name an event that's been held at the BoS Center in the last 10 years. Is there anything offered to the community? There needs to be a complete rethinking here.
