Historian Jeffrey Engel will discuss the legacy of President George H. W. Bush, particularly in relation to his handling of the end of the Cold War, during a speaking engagement at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum on March 6. Engel is the author of When the World Seemed New: George H. W. Bush and the End of the Cold War, the result of dozens of interviews and access to previously classified documents which paint a colorful and detailed picture of decision-making in the Bush White House. The book is described by journalist and historian Evan Thomas as “stocked with lessons for our own dangerous times.” Engel is director of the Center for Presidential History at Southern Methodist University and will sign copies of When the World Seemed New at 6 p.m. before speaking at 6:30 in the museum’s Union Theater Tickets are $8 for nonmembers, $5 for members.
