Springfield Art Association will host a free family gathering, celebrating their mascot -- a buffalo sculpture, created by John Kearny and purchased by the SAA in 1976. Kids’ activities, square dancers, crafts and free ice cream will be provided on the SAA lawn. There are two exhibits you can visit also, one at SAA and one at the nearby Demo Project. In the M.G. Nelson Family Gallery is a national juried exhibit of contemporary printmaking in addition to prints from the SAA’s permanent collection. At the Demo Project the contemporary work of artist Maggie Crowley is on display. Both exhibits will hold opening receptions Friday, the night before the Buffalo Fest and Ice Cream Social, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
