Whether you are a hot rod enthusiast or a classic car purist, you will want to be among the spectators lining the streets to catch a view of up to 2,000 street machines, muscle cars and roadsters rumbling into downtown Springfield Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. Kicking off the 21st Annual International Route 66 Mother Road Festival, the cruise will leave Capital City Shopping Center led by Hail to the Heroes, the 2022 Grand Marshals, who are a group of veterans representing all U.S.-involved conflicts in recent history. The cruise will turn down Stevenson Drive then to Sixth Street, which will take them downtown where a great weekend packed with family entertainment will be waiting. Be sure to stop by the Monet of Cars including Dick Levi's private automobile collection. Tour the enviable restored travel trailers at the Vintage Camper Rally. Check out East Bound and Down, the ultimate Smokey and the Bandit tribute and, of course, don't miss the burn-out contest. Live music will be playing all weekend and there will be plenty of food trucks on hand to keep the crowds well fed. Do not miss this chance to once again experience the cars, the music and the nostalgia.
