Editors note 9/1/22

We who value churches share the pain of the United Methodists as they struggle through their latest battle, as reflected in the news story on this page. Churches and other religious bodies throughout the country have lived through difficult times over the past two years of pandemic and racial upheaval. Political divisions, also, can't help but infiltrate congregations. Instead of using the values of their faith to help each other through the stress, church members, like everybody else, too often find new reasons to dislike each other. Yet, for all the heartache, there are heroes in churches everywhere who spread the gospel of loving one another anyway. –Fletcher Farrar, editor
