What's new at the zoo in 2022?

Planning on venturing outdoors this weekend? The zoo is a great destination for some early spring adventures. Henson Robinson Zoo began as a dream of a prominent Springfield citizen, Henson C. Robinson. In 1967, the city of Springfield donated a tract of land to the Springfield Park District and construction of the zoo began the next year. Since then, the zoo has grown and expanded with the addition of new animals and exhibits. Visit the zoo during its upcoming opening day and see what new things are waiting to be discovered by you this year. Chat with the zookeepers and check out the bio-fact stations, see the new African penguins and adorable wallabies, and visit with your favorite animals from last season. Beyond opening day, the zoo has other exciting events planned for later this month, such as the fun and educational experiences of April Zoo Tots and Zooper Edventures. Perhaps best of all, if you are age 13 or older, the zoo has wonderful volunteer opportunities for animal ambassadors, interpreters and for helping at events. Check the Facebook page to learn about everything new at the zoo.
