Editor's note 12/16/21

In these dark days, everybody is looking for a little light. Now comes news from the Abraham Lincoln Association that Springfield's Bunn family, which sold groceries to the Lincolns when they lived here in the 1840s and 1850s, is making available at its Bunn Gourmet shop the very mix of tea Abraham and Mary drank, from a company of the same name as made the tea back then. The ALA adds that in February 1864, during dark days of the Civil War, Lincoln was on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington with William Seward, his secretary of state, when they passed a storefront with a sign, "T.R. Strong." "T.R. Strong," remarked the president, "but coffee are stronger." –Fletcher Farrar, editor
