"Go the Extra Mile 5K" honors frontline workers

The Springfield Rotary Club is honoring first responders and frontline workers with its inaugural "Go the Extra Mile 5K" race at 9 a.m. on Oct. 30 at Southwind Park. Runners and walkers are invited to sign up and name a friend, family member or community person who serves as the first line of defense in protecting our community. Participants will have their picture taken holding signs to identify the person they are honoring. The Rotary Club will create a collage of pictures to celebrate the event and the people being recognized.

Online preregistration is required for this family-friendly event. For more information and to register, go to https://www.givesignup.org/Race/IL/Springfield/GotheExtraMile5K. Those who register before Oct. 10 will receive a T-shirt. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age class. There will be a separate Kids' Race for those 10 and under, with each participant receiving a medal.
