Class reunions are one more thing impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Litchfield High School Class of 1970 was planning to have its 50th reunion this July, but instead postponed the reunion to July 2021. That didn't stop the class from coming together in spirit. They decided to support their local community by having a fund drive to support the Litchfield Museum and Route 66 Welcome Center. The museum, which opened in 2013, celebrates the community's rich history and its connection to Route 66. The LHS Class of 1970 recently contributed $10,000 to the museum. Class member Jan Quarton, who now resides in Lake Chapala, Mexico, initiated the project.
The volunteer-driven museum reopened July 1 and is grateful for the donation. David Jackson, editor of the Litchfield News Herald, loved history and collected many items related to his hometown. He didn't live to see the museum, but his family and other community volunteers turned his dream into a reality. Anne Jackson, secretary of the museum, says they look forward to showing class members the result of their extraordinary donation at next year's reunion.
