If you do hair, Springfield is the place for you. That’s according to a survey entitled, “These are the 10 best cities for stylists,” published last week on zippia.com, a website self-described as “a platform that gives everybody the tools to find the career that is right for them.” The list is based on figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and it does seem to indicate that you could do worse than the capital city as a base of operations for a career in the tonsorial arts. Factors used to determine ranking were “location quotient” (described as “a measure of how common a job is in a given city”), average annual salary and average annual salary for entry-level work. According to Zippia’s list, the total number of stylist jobs in town is 550 with an average annual salary of $40,600, an average entry-level salary of $21,190 and a location quotient of 2.03. For the curious, the other cities on the list are Tacoma, Washington; Ocean City, New Jersey; Longview, Washington; Walla Walla, Washington; Weirton, West Virginia; Rapid City, South Dakota; The Villages, Florida; Cleveland, Ohio; and Corvallis, Oregon.
