    Let’s play ball! Learn more about the history of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and its ties to Illinois. As famously quoted by Tom Hanks in A League of Their Own, “There’s no crying in baseball!” Founded by Philip K. Wrigley, the AAGPBL formed fifteen baseball teams throughout the upper Midwest between 1943 and 1954. In 1948, Springfield, Illinois was added to the League. As a result, the team became known as the Springfield Sallies and played at Fitzpatrick Memorial Stadium in Springfield, IL for one season. 217-753-4900

    Robert Sampson, of Jacksonville and originally from East St. Louis, loves older music of almost every genre although his main genre is blues. A multi-instrumentalist, Robert plays bass, guitar, drums, percussion, piano, organ, sax, lap steel, pedal steel, harmonica and is an accomplished vocalist. He has won competitions to compete in the Blues Foundations, International Blues Challenge six-plus times as a solo musician and as a member of a blues band.
