The Springfield-based Illinois Innocence Project this week won the full exoneration of Marilyn Mulero, who spent nearly three decades in prison for a 1992 murder she did not commit. She was one of seven victims of corrupt former Chicago Detective Reynaldo Guevara who were exonerated in a Cook County courtroom. It was the largest mass exoneration for murder convictions in U.S. history. Lauren Kaeseberg, co-director of IIP and Mulero's attorney, saluted the perseverance of the exonerees for insisting on their innocence over many years. "Their bravery in telling their stories gives us all hope that good can prevail over evil," she said. –Fletcher Farrar, editor and CEO
