Yellow Bird Coffee House

It took almost a year for Mike and Kelly Donaldson to renovate the historic Naramore House, building solid relationships along the way. Opening week was packed with customers, and they were surprised by the outpouring of support, allowing them to add staff and additional hours much sooner than they expected. Eight months later, Yellow Bird still has a solid following of patrons.

The Donaldsons are veterans, with 48 years of combined military service between them. The name of the coffee house is inspired by their service. It is their goal "to serve the highest quality coffee, espresso drinks, pastries and quiche while providing an awesome custom coffee house experience to all." If you've frequented the establishment, you know they have succeeded.

Most of the eggs and honey used in their baked goods originate at Yellow Bird Ranch, their hobby farm located southeast of Springfield. Desserts are baked fresh daily in-house.

The lack of a quality coffee house in the Medical District inspired the Donaldsons to dream of opening Yellow Bird. When the Naramore House came up for sale, Mike's love of history sealed the deal. Originally a grocery store with living quarters upstairs, the Donaldsons have completely remodeled the Naramore House, with two apartments upstairs, which they rent to traveling nurses.

Yellow Bird is a delightful neighborhood coffee house, but you don't have to live nearby to experience the delicious coffee and desserts.
