THEATER PERFORMANCE – MALE LEAD
BEST DIRECTOR
In the IT review of the Springfield Muni Opera's Fiddler on the Roof, it was noted: "Gus Gordon has starred in a long list of musicals and Tevye is a great role for him now. Always considered a go-to song-and-dance man, Gordon uses his humor to guide us through the show. He also has a stature about him and the serious moments are quite powerful."
Likely, it was that humor and stature that earned him the 2023 nod and made him a standout among voters. Gordon joins a long list of actors who have brought the well-known role of Tevye to life in the Springfield area, and audiences were clearly impressed with his interpretation of the character in a memorable and moving production.
Also worth noting is that while Gordon was specifically nominated for Fiddler, he also appeared onstage this year in other, vastly different roles, including Benjamin Stone in the stylish "Follies in Concert" for Springfield Theatre Centre and most recently as Nostradamus in the hilarious Something Rotten! for Hoogland Center for the Arts. He is also the current executive director at the Hoogland, a downtown arts and culture hub in Springfield, demonstrating how Gordon succeeds in helping to bring the arts to life both on and offstage.
