The Animal Protective League (APL) invites the public to honor a loved one, animal or human, with a memorial light on APL’s annual Tree of Lights. For each $5 tax-deductible donation to APL designated for the Tree of Lights, a small, white light will be placed on an evergreen on APL’s grounds. All proceeds will benefit the non-profit organization’s sick, injured, abused or abandoned cats and dogs.
APL will then host its annual Tree of Lights open house on Sunday, Dec. 16 from noon to 5:30 p.m. at its shelter at 1001 Taintor Road in Springfield. Individuals are invited to enjoy refreshments, tour APL facilities and meet adoptable cats and dogs. The official tree lighting will be held at 5:30 p.m.
Tree of Lights messages may be submitted through Dec. 31 and will be published on a special page on APL’s website and in a display during the open house. The form to make a Tree of Lights gift is available online at www.apl-shelter.org or at APL’s Springfield shelter.
APL’s shelter is open every day from noon to 5 p.m. for adoptions. The organization also coordinates cruelty investigations, humane education programs and operates a low cost spay/neuter clinic adjacent to its Springfield shelter.
