Lincoln Land Community College invites the public to the college’s fifth annual Lincoln Lecture Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. in the Trutter Center.
Bryon C. Andreasen, research historian at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM), will speak on “Lincoln in the Movies: A Historical Perspective.” There is no charge to attend, and refreshments will be served.
Prior to the presentation, actor Fritz Klein as President Lincoln will interact with students in A. Lincoln Commons from 8 to 10 a.m., with treats prepared by the college’s Epicurean Club.
Mr. Andreasen’s duties at the ALPLM include researching, writing and lecturing on Abraham Lincoln and his world, and assisting the executive director and staff on various projects and programs. He is editor of the prestigious “Journal of the Abraham Lincoln Association” and served as a historical consultant to the State of Illinois’s Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition. He is a frequent participant at historical conferences and has published articles in several Civil War anthologies and reviews in various academic journals.
He earned a J.D. from Cornell University and formerly practiced law in New York. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has taught at the University of Illinois and Illinois State University, and is the recipient of several awards for research and writing.
Lincoln’s birthday activities on the Springfield campus will also feature a Lincoln Bingo trivia contest and Lincoln poster display in A. Lincoln Commons.
Activities at LLCC-Jacksonville and Beardstown include a trip to the ALPLM in Springfield and refreshments for students, faculty and staff. LLCC-Litchfield and Taylorville will again host a Lincoln essay contest for high school juniors and seniors, with an awards ceremony Feb. 7 at LLCC-Litchfield and Feb. 12 at LLCC-Taylorville. Both locations will host a Lincoln scavenger hunt and refreshments.
