Kari Bedford Photography and YMCA of Springfield, Ill. are teaming up to host a free photo booth event for area residents who donate new or gently worn coats for Springfield families in need. Coats may be donated between Nov. 12 and Nov. 17 using a dropbox at both YMCA locations in Springfield, 701 South Fourth Street and 4550 West Iles Avenue. Coats collected at the YMCA locations will be donated to the Springfield Community Federation (SCF), who will distribute the coats to area families.
“Many families are having a hard time and can't afford winter coats,” said Beverly Harvey, Program Administrator at SCF.
In exchange for donations, donors will receive a free ticket to "Coats for Clicks" at the YMCA front desks to have their photo taken in a professional photo booth in the lobby of the downtown YMCA, sponsored by Kari Bedford Photography. The photography event will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at the downtown YMCA location, 701 S. Fourth Street.
“To keep it spontaneous and fun, I will take five to ten photos of each person or small group,” said Kari Bedford, owner of Kari Bedford Photography. “The idea is to reward people for their good deed while supporting a great cause.”
Event photos will be posted on Kari Bedford Photography’s Facebook page within one week of the event. Participants also will have the chance to enter a drawing for a free photo session and an 8x10 print from Kari Bedford Photography.
The event is open to the public.
