Capitol Canine Training Club Inc. will host three days of American Kennel Club-licensed agility trials on Friday, Oct. 12, Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14. The event will take place in the Coliseum at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The trials will run from 8 a.m. to late afternoon. No dogs who will not be competing will be allowed in the arena, based on AKC regulations. There is no charge for the event, and spectators might want to bring their own lawn chairs.
Agility is a timed dog sport in which the dog and handler negotiate an obstacle course that requires conditioning, concentration, training and teamwork.
CCTC, a not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1965 and sanctioned by the American Kennel Club in 1975. Since its inception, thousands of Springfield-area dogs have received obedience and other instruction through its programs. For non-members, classes are offered for puppies and adult dogs, such as obedience, Rally-O, agility, flyball and tracking.
