Widely-published, international poets, Drs. David Gardiner and Dan Guillory, will be reading in Decatur October 25, 2012 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Oglesby Mansion, 421 West William St. This event, sponsored by THE BACK ROW, a local Irish literary group, is open to the public.
David Gardiner currently lives in Chicago. He has served as professor at Creighton University and Trinity College Dublin as well as visiting scholar at Boson College, New York University and the University of Ulster. During this time, he was founding publisher and editor of An Sionnach –an internationally-recognized publication that featured the works of Seamus Heaney, Van Morrison, Paula Meehan and Sebastian Barry, among others. Since 1989, when he attended University College Galway, he has commuted between Ireland and the U.S. He has lived in Dublin, Coleraine, and New York City. In recognition of his work in Northern Ireland, David retired from academia to pursue work in the private sector as an information security specialist. He is currently Ass’t to the President and lead Business Analyst at igxglobal, inc. He has written five books, edited ten and authored over sixty journal publications. His most recent poetry publication is Downstate (Salmon Poetry). His forthcoming work is The Chivalry of Crime.
Dan Guillory, Professor Emeritus of English at Millikin University, is the author of eight books, including two books of poetry, The Alligator Inventions and The Lincoln Poems. He has won awards from the Illinois Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Academy of American Poets, and the American Library Association. Dan grew up in a bilingual home in southern Illinois and has lived in Illinois since 1972. A new book of poetry entitled Housepoems is scheduled for publication in 2013.
