Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas

Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) Theatre invites the public to a newly adapted version of the Charles Dickens classic entitled, “Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas.” The production will be staged Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 7 and 8 at 8 p.m. and Sundays, Dec. 2 and 9 at 3 p.m. at Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site Visitor’s Center.

“This mystical production re-imagines Dickens' tale as he intended it to be: a ‘ghost story of Christmas,’” said director Mark Hardiman, LLCC assistant professor of theatre. “This year’s cast has been enlarged to 20 and the production will include a flying bed and a special appearance by the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.”

The play is produced in association with Theatre in the Park and the Lincoln League of New Salem. Tickets, at $12 each, are available by calling 217-632-5440 (800-710-9290).

“The acting ensemble will play multiple roles in addition to peopling the nearly 60 roles within the text,” says Hardiman. “This is truly an actor’s production; the ensemble provides everything from sound effects to a beautiful underscore for this evocative production. Everything has been done to preserve Dickens’ original intent.”

The production design this year includes original welded set pieces constructed by LLCC’s new faculty member Allen Tomnitz in the Workforce Careers Center on the Springfield campus.

“The theatre program is committed to collaboration both within the college and in the community,” said Hardiman. “This is a tremendous opportunity to let the students and faculty of LLCC shine.”

LLCC Theatre’s artistic mission is to bring to light the work of those who have charted new intellectual topography.
