Don't Mess With Winkie

Members: Nick V. Derek E. Cody E. Jim W. Cory V. Greg H.
Springfield, IL & St. Louis, MO
Date of Creation: 2006-07-01

Since Greg's basement in 2006, we have been writing ska and punk music for our friends to dance to. Our number one interest is to have fun and see our fans have fun, the rest is just detils. We practice when we can, and play when we can, and are always open to requests. Our music is about integrity, which is why we are and will always be willing to play for anyone who wants to hear us. -DMWW

Behind the name:
Rumor has it that many years ago, at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, IL (where we are from) there was an elephant named Winkie who managed to grab a child with his trunk and toss him across the pen. Thus Don't Mess With Winkie became a pretty self explanatory saying. And that's why lots of our logos feature our version of "Winkie" the elephant

November update

The last two shows were great! The Hobgob show at Blacksheep was amazing, so thanks to everyone who came out. It was also the band Renae's last Springfield show, so as you can imagine people went nuts during their set. On that same note, November 6th at Wake the Dead in Decatur was incredible too! Renae played as well in what they claimed was their last show ever. We had a blast and ate lots of the free food wake the dead provides. Cool Place! Flatfoot 56 tore it up that night as well, and even managed to break up a fight during their set while on stage. Gotta love when a band actually stands up against violence like that. Bonus points in my book... We have our next show on November 30th at the Blacksheep in Springfield with a cool pop punk band from out east headlining that show and I know its going to be awesome. Don't forget our music is up for free download from tumblr.com

Keep on keepin on

-

Hey gang, so its time for winter break! A couple of cool things are in the works at the moment. First, Friday the 17th is going to be a fun "Home for winter break" show at the Blacksheep Cafe. We are playing with a couple other ska bands so its going to be a good time! Also, we have been working hard on a couple projects. 1-We have been writing a couple new songs, one is kinda like a country punk sound but it works out well. Also a new one called "No Meat Mondays" is being polished. 2-we had a cover song contest a little while back where everyone voted on what cover song we should learn. Well the winner was "I fell asleep on my arm" by the Aquabats, so expect to be hearing that at an upcoming show. 3-Cory, Cody, Jim, and Greg are learning a bunch of Operation Ivy songs for the 22 year mark since Op Ivy played their last show. Other bands will be there to play Rancid and Common Rider songs as well so you know its going to be sick. That show is in April so keep and eye out for that.

Happy Holidays and be safe this winter from the dudes in DMWW!

Lipstick Homicide

-

Welcome to the new year! The most recent cool news we have is that the show on the 8th was awesome! If you missed it, our friends from Iowa City called, "Lipstick Homicide" came and tore it up. We were really glad that everyone at the show got really into them. Of course The Blenders came as well and opened the show with a song marithon. If you missed it, I'm sorry. On that same note, Lipstick Homicide agreed to return in May for the Op IV tribute show where they will be performing as Green Day! That show is getting cooler and cooler as time passes... Last but not least, we are going to continue recording our new album within the next two weeks. Our current plan is to have it finished and released by Spring.
