The Illinois Central Blues Club and Illinois State Museum host a free program, History of the Blues, at the museum on Sunday, Feb. 19, in recognition of Black History Month. Blues aficionado Fernando Jones and his band, My Band, will play and talk about the history of the genre. Jones, a Columbia College music professor and guest lecturer at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum, was given the prestigious Blues Foundation’s Keeping The Blues Alive Award in 2008. He is the author of I Was There When the Blues Was Red Hot that has been used as a resource by Newsweek, Living Blues and the London Times. Jones also founded the Blues Camp and Blues Kids of America in 1989.
