Already recognized by the state, Springfield’s Tony Leone got his latest kudos from the city. On Monday, the vocal advocate for saving old structures was named 2011 Preservationist of the Year by Mayor Mike Houston and the Springfield Historic Sites Commission.
Leone is best known for his renovation of the structure at 525 S. Pasfield Street, which was the 1896 classical revival home of George Pasfield Jr. Named to the Illinois State Capitol Historic Preservation Advisory Board by Gov. Pat Quinn in 2010, Leone has also been recognized by the General Assembly for leading the charge in revitalizing the area directly west of the State Capitol.
Next on Leone’s list of things to do is finishing a home that sits across from the Pasfield House Inn on the former site of the Pasfield family’s sustainable farm.
During the 2011 historic preservation awards event, Houston also recognized efforts including the State House Inn, Obed and Isaac’s, the Buck’s Building, the Schnepp Block, the Washington Park Knolls neighborhood, Enos Park Neighborhood Improvement Association, the Catholic Diocese of Springfield and the Amtrak partnership with the City of Springfield.
