Moving to the music

By Anita Stienstra

Here’s a chance to see the dancing of the Springfield Ballet Company in a different light, or should we say sound, as they team up with the St. Louis rock band Downstate, instead of the orchestra, and move to the music of Dave Matthews Band, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, Adele and more. You’ll see the troupe perform modern, jazz and other dance styles in addition to ballet. Guest choreographers are Hernan Justo and Francesca Genovese of Carolina Ballet Theatre, Julie Tice of Paul Taylor Dance Company, Harrison McEldowney, Krenly Guzman, and Paul Cipponeri; as well as local choreographers Julie Ratz, Gina DeCroix Russell, Lauren Small and Elizabeth Cheney. Bunn and Capitol Radio Group sponsor these two performances.
