FLUTE FUN

By Cap City
Eight flutists and one cellist showed New York City what Springfield’s made of this month, as the Eddy Flute Choir took the Big Apple by storm on a goodwill tour.

A “melting pot” of ages, the group led by Debbie Eddy of Eddy Flute Studio 51 showcased local musicians aged eight through adult-hood as it performed at the United Nations and the Statue of Liberty. The group also shared its talents as it visited the site of television’s “Cake Boss,” the World Trade Center site and Central Park.

Performing for international audiences, the group played music from around the world as well as tunes chock full of American patriotism.

“It was wonderful, and I was really proud of the kids,” Eddy says. “They really represented the state well.”

The latest tour was the choir’s eighth performance tour since Eddy established the group in 1985. Eddy Flute Studio 51 was established in 1980. Past destinations for the group have included Austria, England, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland and Washington, D.C.
