Deb Callahan

By Tom Irwin

The Illinois Central Blues Club features Philadelphia’s Deb Callahan on the Fourth of July for a Red, White and Blue Monday. The blues and soul-soaked singer and songwriter released Tell It Like It Is, her fourth CD, in October of 2010.  Produced by Deb with Philadelphia musician Chris Arms and recorded at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pa., by Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Phil Nicolo, the record features nine original songs, a cover of “Funkier Than a Mosquita’s Tweeter,” originally performed by Tina Turner, as well as “Cold Irons Bound,” a very cool Bob Dylan tune. Her road band of veterans Allen James (guitar), Garry Lee (bass) and Tom Walling (drums) performed on the CD, along with special guests Jason Crosby on keyboards/violin, (Susan Tedeschi, Robert Randolph) and Matt Cappy on trumpet, (Jill Scott, MJ Blige, Jay-Z, John Legend). Callahan tours nationally playing with the goods and greats of the blues and soul worlds at festivals and assorted venues while receiving extensive airplay on major blues stations as she stakes her claim in the music world.
