One of only three of its kind in Illinois, Williamsville’s 24-hour Huddle House earned the restaurant franchise’s top honor last month at the chain’s annual convention in Georgia.
Lynne and Dan Harbin, who have owned and operated the Williamsville Huddle House for four years, this year took first place in the chain’s “Best of the Best” competition. Last year they won second place in the competition.
The award is in recognition of top-notch customer service, cleanliness, attitude, appearance and food. Along with the bragging rights, the first place “Best of the Best” award came with $15,000 and last year’s second place came with $10,000. The Harbins shared the bulk of both awards with about 25 employees, most of whom are high school and college students.
“It’s a great motivator,” Lynne Harbin says of sharing the award money with staff, but she adds that it’s really more about pride. The Williamsville restaurant beat out more than 400 other Huddle House restaurants in 19 states to earn the “Best of the Best” title. “That’s a pretty big compliment on the things they do everyday,” Harbin says.
Huddle House is a sit-down home-style restaurant with a casual atmosphere. The chain was started in 1964 in Decatur, Ga.
