Bobby Schilling’s June 3 op-ed “Cutting taxes creates jobs” is rife with so many mistakes and distortions I don’t even know where to begin.
Mr. Schilling asserts that there are no new jobs in the 17th District. I suggest he visit the Rock Island Arsenal, where federal investment in the ASPI program has created and saved 670 private sector jobs. He should stop by Canton, where federal funds helped create 300 private sector jobs at a new bio-medical manufacturing and business park. He should take a ride up to Whiteside County, where a veterans’ outpatient clinic Congressman Hare helped secure will create 20 new jobs.
And the list goes on.
Mr. Schilling asserts that cutting taxes always leads to more jobs and “that’s how economics works.” Unfortunately the facts elude him once again. Responsible economics is matching the right fiscal and budget policies with the current economic conditions. There is no “one size fits all” solution. We tried tax cuts for the wealthy at all costs under George W. Bush and our economy plummeted into a recession as record surpluses turned into record deficits. In fact, if the economy produces jobs over the next seven months at the same pace it did over the first five, we will have created more jobs in 2010 alone than the entire eight years of George W. Bush’s presidency.
Mr. Schilling’s factual errors don’t end there.
He claims that Congressman Hare has advocated raising taxes. That is patently false. Under the policies Congressman Hare supported, the average American saw a tax refund of more than $3,000 this year. Congressman Hare believes that putting more money in the pockets of working families is one of the best ways to help speed our economic recovery. He has also supported a number of tax cuts for small businesses to purchase inventory and hire new workers.
Mr. Schilling also claims that Congressman Hare has touted temporary jobs; also not true. Congressman Hare’s Local Jobs for America Act would provide our communities with funds to retain and hire teachers, firefighters and police officers. Does anyone consider these jobs temporary? They are noble civil servants — any suggestion otherwise demeans their contributions to our nation.
At some point, Mr. Schilling will have to present more than empty rhetoric about term limits and refusing the congressional pension. And he will have to put forth a plan that actually has something to do with job creation. In the meantime, Congressman Hare will continue to do everything in his power to help people get back to work.

Wow. It's shocking how many inaccuracies and outright lies are in this article. I guess that's straight out of the Democrat playbook... lie about how many lies are being told about you!
Mr. Schlittner, how many NET jobs were created under your watch?
Congressman Hare HAS advocated tax increases. He voted for the healthcare reform bill, which includes individual mandate taxes. He's also voted for increased capital gains taxes and dividend taxes. Income tax is not the only tax out there.
Here's where you're most disingenuous:

Most of those jobs were temporary census jobs, and they will be gone by the end of the year. There have been multiple investigations into the validity of the census employment numbers, and they have all found that the census is "cooking the books" in terms of how many people have been employed. Simply put, the jobs numbers for 2010 have been fraudulent and misleading.
Nice attempt at a rebuttal to Mr. Schilling's article, but your intellectual dishonesty certainly reflects poorly on Congressman Hare's re-election efforts.
