CHILLY? TRY CHILI!

By Cap City
When you’re buried in snow, a hot bowl of chili goes a long way toward curing the winter blues. Springfield’s Sparc developmental disability advocates are holding their 21st annual Sugar and Spice Chili Dinner just in time to help bid winter an enthusiastic farewell.

The March 13 fundraiser will feature chili, vegetarian soup, hotdogs and homemade desserts, plus a magic show, puppet show, clowns, face painting and games. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction. If you’re in a hurry that day, you can even reserve a “To-Go” order ahead of time, or just swing by the drive-through. But if you don’t go inside, you’ll miss being served by state Rep. Raymond Poe, state Senator Larry Bomke, radio personality Jim Leach and other local celebrities.

Proceeds will be used to help Sparc buy educational and recreational materials and equipment for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children, with different prices for drive-through orders. Business owners can advertise on the group’s colorful placemats as well.

The dinner is noon to 6 p.m. March 13 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 533 South Walnut Street in Springfield. For more information, call Martha at 793-2206, ext. 167 or email mschroeder@spfldsparc.org.
