HAVE A BALL

By Cap City
You don’t have to be of African descent to appreciate Black History Month — especially when there’s free food involved!

One in a Million, Inc., a Springfield-based community group led by east-side activist Mike Williams, is hosting a fundraiser Thursday night to prepare for their upcoming annual Black History Ball.

The ball is a celebration of African-American history and heritage, featuring historical performances, live entertainment and food, as well as community awards and a $250 scholarship for a high school essay writer. It’s a chance to learn about influential black figures in our nation’s past and a chance to just have some good fun. The ball is scheduled for Feb. 27 at the Eagles Club in Springfield.

To help raise money for the ball, check out the group’s fundraiser at 5:30 p.m., Jan. 14 at Catch 22, 11 West Old Capitol Plaza in Springfield. Admission is $5, and will feature music and free food.

For more information, call Mike Williams at 502-3701 or Ben Griffin at 971-7979.
