Last May we introduced readers to Indira Somani, a Springfield native who co-produced Crossing Lines, an award-winning film that looks at Somani’s life as a second-generation Indian and how she connected to her roots after her father’s death [see “Crossing Lines, the documentary,” May 27, 2009].
At 7 p.m. Oct. 15, Crossing Lines makes its capital city debut in University Hall room 2008 at University of Illinois Springfield. The event is sponsored by the Office of International Programs, Capital Scholars Honors Program and the Indian Student Organization at UIS and the Asian Indian Women’s Organization in Springfield. It’s free and open to the public.
“We started out thinking it was only going to screen in South Asian film festivals,” Somani told Illinois Times. “We thought it was going to be a story about me and my dad. It’s a story about second-generation ethnic-Americans and their cultural identity.”
