The Seething Coast

By Tom Irwin

In 2006 when “Springfield’s beloved indie pop band Resident Genius abruptly imploded at their peak,” The Seething Coast incarnated from the resulting tumult. Guitarists, singers and songwriters, Jay Vanselow and Jason Perry, scrounged the fresh moniker from a song by the band the Mountain Goats and carried on the soul and style of RG with a stubborn yearning, forging ahead with desire, gusto and zeal.  Using various drummers and bass players for live performances to keep the sound fresh and percolating, Perry and Vanselow are enabled this Friday by bassist Sam West (All These Pieces, Merkins) and drummer Eric Brawner (Gorilla System). The band will have on hand for public purchase and perusal, several copies of an eponymous EP containing six songs, varying from loud punk rock to quiet solo acoustic numbers, deftly demonstrating the vastness of expanding songwriting skills and performance abilities inherent within this visceral and vibrant combo. Also on the bill are vital and virulent newcomers Epsom, Big Storm with Brandon Carnes, and host Comedian Brandon Judd.
