Miniature mangers

By Anita Stienstra

Chiara Center will host its annual Franciscan Nativity Festival Nov. 30-Dec. 2. More than 100 miniature nativity sets will be on display including a set made from automobile spark plugs, connecting rods and other auto parts. Visitors can also tour St. Francis of Assisi Church, the 1920s Romanesque church of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis. “What makes the festival unique is the story of each Nativity set. Whether purchased in a distant land or made as a school art project, each set is treasured,” said Sister Renita, OSF, Chiara Center program director. Founded in 2007 and located on the grounds of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse, Chiara Center is an ecumenical faith community. For more information, visit chiaracenter.org.
