Visual expressions

By Anita Stienstra

You’ll want to join the Springfield Art Association this year with new interactive and fun features at its Edwards Place Fine Art Fair, held on the grounds of the historic mansion, both Saturday and Sunday. More than 60 artists will display and sell their works, interesting demonstrations will be presented in raku (outdoor kiln firing/Japanese ceramic glazing) , kumihimo (Japanese braiding), split oak basket weaving, rag weaving on a loom, nuno felting (wet rubbing of wool fibers), stained glass, paper making and more. Local musicians, including Ben Bedford and Samba Llamas, will play longer sets. A Children’s Tent is joined by interactive games, such as, life-size Angry Birds. A bicycle frame decoration station will be on site, sponsored by The Bicycle Doctor. Don’t forget to view the current art exhibit by Russian painter Vasiliy Myazin, too, while buying a treasure from the used book sale. Explore the weekend’s visual expressions and SAA’s new website at www.springfieldart.org.
