You have shown your liberal bias by publishing Chris Britt’s newest cartoon bashing Chick-fil-A. The company doesn’t preach hate, or intolerance in any fashion. The media asked a leading question to the CEO about his personal beliefs, knowing the answer ahead of time. I truly believe this is only an issue to distract people from the failed policies of the president. The liberal left preaches tolerance, but only if your views agree with theirs. I will no longer be reading your paper.
TOLERANCE BOTH WAYS
I enjoy and usually understand the art of a good editorial cartoon. However, Mr. Britt in his cartoon in the Aug. 9 edition of Illinois Times goes over the top. Mr. Cathy of Chick-fil-A said that his privately owned company is “guilty as charged” in support of what he called “the biblical definition of the family unit.” We all know that to be the marriage of a man and a woman. The company’s statement says, “The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity, and respect — regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation, or gender.” As far as I know and as far as Chris Britt knows, this is true. Nothing was said that implied the company hated or discriminated against employees or customers. My concern is that the tolerance and inclusion that Mr. Britt wants does not include anyone who disagrees with the current cultural movement. So, where is the tolerance for Mr. Cathy and all who believe in the biblical definition of marriage?
MASTER OF MANAGEMENT
Your article on Goodwill and Sharon Durbin is phenomenal [See “Goodwill POWER: Central Illinois charity roars back,” by Bruce Rushton, Aug. 9]. I had Sharon in class when she did her master’s in Management and Organizational Behavior at Benedictine University here in Springfield. It has been so rewarding to see the success she has had in turning around Land of Lincoln Goodwill. I certainly am proud of her and amazed at how she keeps improving and improving the organization. Kudos to you for the article and to Sharon and all of her colleagues at Goodwill!

Has anyone verified this claim from the plaintiff, “…an internal affairs investigator for the department told her that deputies often have sex while on duty and that the department would have virtually no deputies left if they were fired for having sex during work hours.” [See “County pays sex assault claim,” by Bruce Rushton, Aug. 9]?
What a recruitment campaign! If this is true I hope I’m not over the age limit for deputies. I will work cheap and I can start today.
Seriously. No way. My bet is either she misunderstood or the investigator was testing her story by trying to trip her up and see how she reacted. Settlement suggests she reacted well enough.
AMEREN, GO GREEN
Ameren should be proud. They will be refusing to comply with environmental regulations and screaming about lost jobs until the air is so dirty that we have to walk around with masks on our face. [See “Ameren: Pollution rules threaten jobs,” by Patrick Yeagle, Aug. 9.] If Ameren cared anything about the environment then they would look into implementing green jobs and offer and or pay for training to make that happen. Then possibly more jobs would be available. But again, Ameren will find some lame excuse to continue to pollute the air.
Ameren customers should know that other power companies exist and to look into switching to one of them. Furthermore, big oil companies should stop overproducing, which is wrong and is costing us the environment. Forget about cheap gas. I am willing to pay a few extra dollars on my gas bill if it means I am going to have a healthy earth to live out the rest of my life on.
